Custom Fitted Mouth Guards
When you think of mouth guards, you think of athletes participating in a contact sport.
Mouth guards protect teeth from injury and from getting knocked loose. However, patients don’t need to be athletes to benefit from mouth guards.
Dental Issues Treated With Mouth Guards
Reduce Dental Sports Injuries
Athletes, especially those participating in high-contact sports, should use a mouth guard because of the high risk of injury to one’s teeth. Even those participating in traditionally non-contact sports such as skateboarding are also encouraged to use a mouth guard for extra precaution.
Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)
Bruxism, also called teeth grinding, is a common dental health issue where patients unknowingly grind their teeth excessively while they sleep. Pain in the jaw and headaches are common symptoms of Bruxism.
Mouth guards are effective in relieving the pain and soreness of Bruxism as well as protect and preserve the teeth from further wear and damage.
Why Protecting Your Teeth is Important?
A common misconception is that teeth are hard and can withstand a lot. While teeth that are properly cared for are strong, hard and durable, they aren’t indestructible.
The tooth enamel is the hard, outer, protective layer of a tooth. Once the enamel is compromised, whether it is from chips, crack, breaks or decay, the tooth can be compromised and vulnerable to tooth decay and discoloration.
Against what many assume, a tooth that falls out due to injury, decay or disease will not be replaced with another tooth.
A gap in your smile is not only embarrassing, but it also can cause additional dental health issues including crooked teeth and disintegration and damage to the jaw bone.
What Are Mouth Guards?
Mouth guards are made of poly copolymer clear thermoplastic, polyurethane and laminated thermoplastic. They typically go over the front of the top teeth, but, we will recommend some patients to also wear mouth guards on their bottom teeth.
There are three types of mouth guards available: stock mouth protectors, boil and bite mouth protectors and custom-fitted mouth protectors.
At Madison Smile Solutions, we provide patients with custom-fitted mouth guards that offer superior comfort, fit and protection. We also make them in-house so you can get your teeth protector sooner.
Our dental specialists will take molds of your teeth and use it to custom-make a mouth guard, specifically for you.
While stock mouth guards and boil and bite mouth protectors are readily available, they are bulky, uncomfortable, offer little to no protection and make breathing and talking difficult.
Our custom-made mouth guards resist tears, are easy to clean, are comfortable and don’t interfere with your breathing or speaking.
